Hyatt Place Montreal: Spacious Comfort and Great Value for Families

For our Christmas Eve stay in Montreal, our family chose Hyatt Place Montreal. Offering modern accommodations and thoughtful amenities, this hotel provided a comfortable base for our holiday adventures, with a few areas for improvement.

Key Takeaways:

  • Great Value: Spacious, modern rooms and excellent amenities at an affordable C$220 per night during the holiday season.
  • Family-Friendly: Large gathering spaces and Chromecast-enabled TVs made it ideal for families.
  • Outstanding Breakfast: Buffet offered excellent variety and quality for only C$11 per person.
  • Well-Equipped Facilities: Exceptional gym and a pool, though the latter had heating issues during the stay.
  • Convenient Location: Easy access to public transport and attractions, though the surrounding area felt less secure at night.

Booking and Arrival Experience
We booked directly through the hotel’s website, using a corporate code that extended the cancellation period. Pre-arrival communication included standard email confirmations and reminders, along with an early check-in option that wasn’t particularly clear in its benefits.

Upon arrival, the lobby’s minimalist design was clean and welcoming, but the entry doors were cumbersome in high-traffic situations. Check-in, while friendly, was fraught with hiccups, including confusion over the number of reserved rooms and parking limitations for larger vehicles like our Jeep Grand Wagoneer. The staff helpfully directed us to an alternative parking garage a short walk from the hotel, but this inconvenience could have been avoided with better communication.

Accommodations
We booked two king rooms and two queen rooms, all featuring modern décor and spacious layouts. Standard amenities included a mini fridge, coffee maker, safe, and Chromecast-equipped TVs. The Wi-Fi coverage was excellent, seamlessly transitioning throughout the hotel, from our rooms to the gym and pool areas.

However, some functionality issues detracted from the experience. A sliding bathroom door in one room was poorly installed, preventing it from fully closing and limiting access to the safe and closet space. While manageable for our family, it’s a flaw that could inconvenience other guests.

Dining at the Hotel
Breakfast at the hotel was a standout feature, offering exceptional value at C$11 per person for a buffet with a variety of high-quality options. The yogurt and oatmeal station, complete with an array of dried fruits and granola, was a unique and delightful touch. The self-service approach minimized interaction with staff but allowed us to enjoy a leisurely and satisfying meal. You can see our review of the breakfast buffet here.

Facilities and Amenities
The hotel’s gym exceeded expectations, with a wide range of equipment, including free weights, a weight cage, and various cardio machines. It was one of the most well-equipped fitness centers we’ve encountered at a hotel.

The pool, while visually appealing, was let down by unheated water during our stay. Despite staff attempts to address the issue, the temperature remained uncomfortably cold, cutting short what could have been a highlight for the kids.

Open lounge areas throughout the hotel were a great asset, providing plenty of space for our group of eight to relax and dine together, adding to the overall family-friendly vibe.

Service and Hospitality
Staff interactions were generally friendly, attentive, and professional. A standout moment came when they accommodated our special request for a private space to watch a family movie on Christmas Day—a gesture that went above and beyond our expectations. While no single staff member stood out, the team collectively ensured a positive experience.

Location and Safety
Situated on the edge of downtown Montreal, the hotel offered convenient access to public transportation and local amenities. However, the surrounding area had a noticeable presence of homelessness, which felt less secure in the evening. While this reflects broader urban challenges rather than a hotel-specific issue, it’s worth noting for travelers considering the location.

Final Thoughts
At an average cost of C$220 per night during the holiday season, Hyatt Place Montreal delivered excellent value. With spacious rooms, great amenities, and a top-notch breakfast, it’s a solid choice for families or groups seeking comfort and convenience in Montreal. However, some operational improvements—such as better maintenance of room features and clearer parking information—would elevate the experience further.

Would we stay here again? Yes. Despite some flaws, Hyatt Place Montreal provided a memorable and enjoyable holiday stay for our family.
