A Winter Retreat at Hilton Quebec: Modern Comfort in the Heart of the City
Our family’s holiday travels took us to Quebec City, where we spent two nights at the Hilton Quebec. While the hotel offered modern accommodations and a fantastic location, there were some areas where our experience fell short of expectations.
Key Takeaways:
- Prime Location: Centrally located near Parliament and Christmas markets, with stunning views of the city and festive lights.
- Modern Accommodations: Clean, updated rooms with contemporary décor, though slightly small and noisy at times.
- Unique Amenities: Standout heated outdoor pool offered a memorable experience in snowy weather.
- Mixed Service: Staff were efficient but lacked warmth, with some issues in loyalty program recognition and check-in delays.
- Pricing: At ~$400 per night, the hotel delivered modern comfort and convenience, though premium pricing reflected the season.
Booking and Arrival Experience
We booked through the hotel’s website using a corporate discount, aiming for a balance between cost, luxury, and convenience during the busy holiday season. Pre-arrival communication was limited to standard emails and app notifications, but the mobile check-in feature and text-based customer service proved useful.
Upon arrival, the exterior of the hotel wasn’t much to look at, but the lobby was a different story—sleek, modern, and luxurious. However, check-in was disappointingly slow, with waits exceeding 20 minutes despite using the Hilton Honors line. To add to the frustration, our rooms weren’t ready until after the official 4 PM check-in time.

Accommodations
Our family occupied four rooms, two with king beds and two with queen beds, offering either Parliament or river views. The rooms, though on the smaller side, were spotless and featured a contemporary design. Standard amenities were provided, but we missed the Chromecast feature that allowed for seamless family entertainment at other hotels.

Noise was a drawback, even on the 17th floor, as street sounds and heavy footfalls from the room above were audible. A faulty security latch in one room necessitated a relocation to a lower floor, which unfortunately amplified the street noise.
Dining at the Hotel
We had breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant, which featured a buffet-style setup. While the continental breakfast was included for Hilton Gold members, the separation of hot food items from the complimentary selection felt awkward and unnecessarily complex. Service during breakfast was courteous but slow, likely due to the restaurant being understaffed during a busy morning rush.

Standout Features
The standout feature of our stay was the heated outdoor pool. Even in frigid temperatures and light snow, the kids relished the unique experience of swimming outdoors with a picturesque winter backdrop. The pool’s indoor entry added to its appeal, allowing us to transition comfortably despite the cold weather.

Another family-friendly highlight was the entertainment room equipped with arcade games, foosball, ping-pong, and air hockey. It was a pleasant surprise, and we appreciated the hotel’s efforts to create a welcoming space for children.

Service and Hospitality
The overall service leaned more toward transactional than personable, with the exception of the breakfast staff, who were warm and friendly. While the texting feature for guest support was efficient, the lack of recognition for our Hilton Gold status and limited proactive hospitality left us feeling less valued than at comparable hotels.
Location and Convenience
The Hilton Quebec’s location is a major selling point. Situated near Parliament and within walking distance of Place D’Youville, one of the city’s Christmas markets, the hotel is ideally positioned for exploring Quebec City’s attractions. The evening view of the Parliament building illuminated in festive lights was a memorable sight.

Final Thoughts
At approximately C$400 per night per room, the Hilton Quebec is on the pricier side, particularly when factoring in additional costs like valet parking. That said, the modern accommodations, excellent location, and standout amenities like the year-round heated pool make it a reasonable option for families visiting Quebec City during the holidays.
Would we stay here again? Possibly. The Hilton Quebec offers a comfortable, convenient base for exploring the city, though improvements in service and loyalty recognition would make it a more compelling choice.
