During our visit to Quebec City, we had the pleasure of enjoying breakfast at La Bûche. Known for its homestyle cooking and cozy cabin vibe, the restaurant came highly recommended by other reviewers, and it did not disappoint.

Kids’ Menu Value: Outstanding value for children at just C$10, with generous and flavorful offerings like chocolate and banana crêpes and egg breakfasts.

Adult Menu: Delicious options like the three-meat pie and shepherd’s pie, though slightly pricier than expected.

Food Quality: Overall, dishes were fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared, with crispy potatoes being a standout. One minor issue with a cooler dish was quickly resolved.

Ambiance: Rustic, cozy cabin decor with eclectic art and holiday touches, creating a unique and welcoming dining experience.

Service: Friendly and attentive staff who efficiently managed a busy restaurant, though space was tight due to the restaurant’s popularity.

Value: Fantastic value for kids, with moderate value for adults, making it a good overall choice for families.

Recommendation: Highly recommended for families visiting Quebec City, especially those with children. The charming decor, friendly atmosphere, and good food make it a memorable dining experience.

The Offerings

Both the brunch and lunch menus were available during our 9 AM reservation. The kids’ menu stood out as an exceptional value, with robust offerings priced at just C$10. Highlights included a chocolate and banana crêpe featuring three crêpes, bananas, and chocolate sauce, and a full egg breakfast with scrambled eggs, crispy potatoes, applesauce, toast, and bacon. The crispy potatoes were a family favorite—crunchy on the outside and pillow-soft inside.

For adults, standout dishes included the three-meat pie (venison and two other meats) and the shepherd’s pie. While both were delicious, the shepherd’s pie felt like the better value. One minor hiccup was that one shepherd’s pie was served cooler than expected, but the attentive staff promptly corrected this.

Ambiance

The restaurant’s ambiance was one of its highlights—a welcoming, rustic cabin aesthetic complete with eclectic decor, graffiti art, and holiday touches. The family-friendly vibe was evident, with seating areas accommodating large groups like ours. Unique features, such as a communal bathroom with a single handwashing basin and unisex stalls, added to the quirky charm.

Service

The staff was friendly, attentive, and accommodating, ensuring our group of eight was seated promptly upon arrival. The restaurant’s popularity meant tight spaces and bustling walkways, but the team managed the crowd efficiently, navigating the narrow aisles with care.

Value and Recommendation

La Bûche offers great value for kids, with generous and affordable menu options that miniature foodies will love. While the adult menu items are slightly pricier than expected, the overall experience—delicious food, warm service, and unique decor—balances out to a good value for families.

Final Thoughts

We recommend La Bûche to families visiting Quebec City, especially those with children who enjoy trying a variety of foods. Beyond the meal, the restaurant provides a cozy, memorable dining experience reflective of the city’s charm.
